2018 Wedding Venue Spotlight
∴ Weddings Magazine’s 2018 Wedding Venue Spotlight ∴
Though some venues never go out of style, venues that are in unique settings are extra trendy this year. And for several very good reasons of course! Additionally, venues set the stage for everyone’s overall experience.
The venue you chose will define the scene for your wedding. It’s a big, maybe even huge deal. Many of the other choices you make that relate to your wedding will be made with the venue in mind. The guests experiences begin right as they set foot into the venue. It also, plays a key role in defining your guests overall experience of your wedding. Let’s also not forget about how important it is to have amazing backdrops for wonderful memories, exquisite photos! Last but not least, most importantly, the venue is the atmosphere you experience during that once in a lifetime phrase, “I do”.
Unique venues likely include special experiences that only that particular venue can provide. The bride and groom’s exclusive day starts and revolves around the venue. Whether you prefer elegant & opulent ballrooms, rustic & romantic barns, or even modern blank canvas like industrial settings, the choices are endless.
Choosing “The One”
When selecting a venue, there are a few practical things to consider. First, make sure the space will accommodate all your guests. Second, be mindful of your budget. Third, if you are planning on getting married this year, get to work, because venues book up fast! There are plenty of lovely venues to choose from in categories ranging anywhere from romantic traditional to brand new trendy. Below are some of the great options in the Raleigh, North Carolina area.
The name “Lavender Oaks Farm” conjures up rustic romance set against a breathtaking countryside. The farm is aptly named as it’s an organic lavender farm with nine different varieties of lavender that bloom in late May and last through September. As if the lavender wasn’t dreamy enough, it attracts gorgeous jewel-toned butterflies while in full bloom. The farm is surrounded by 60 acres of lush forest.
There are two barns available for events: the Lavender Barn and the Pavilion Barn. The circa 1900s restored Lavender Barn is the signature venue, boasting 6,700 square feet of floor space as well as a 1,000 square feet loft.
The barn at Lavender Oaks Farm features high ceilings adorned with crystal and wrought iron chandeliers. It is of course temperature-controlled. There are two separate retreat rooms and a prep kitchen. One of the retreat rooms has a private entrance and the other has double doors that open to the back patio, which features a white gazebo and overlooks the lavender fields and gardens. As a bonus, because all the lavender products are made in this barn, you could have customized lavender-themed favors created for your guests.
The circa 1860 restored Pavilion Bar is open on all sides and is ideal for more intimate affairs, featuring 1260 square feet of event space and views of both the lavender fields and surrounding forest. While this space would be well-suited for a smaller ceremony, it could also serve as a space for the rehearsal dinner or the cocktail hour of a larger wedding taking place in the Lavender Barn.
∴ Chatham Station ∴
2018 Wedding venues with an industrial feel have been growing in popularity. The brick and wood décor recall elegant affairs of decades past. Chatham Station, a striking new industrial venue poised to open in May 2018, has all the industrial elements fans of this style enjoy.
Because of its prime location in the historic district in Downtown Cary near the train tracks, it is a perfect venue to capture stunning photos both outdoors and indoors.
Chatham Station features 4,500 square feet of event space, 7 functioning glass garage doors that provide a wall of natural light, an open-air courtyard ideal for cocktail hour, and 2 dressing suites.
Chatham Station is a good selection for couples with guests who will want to party all night, as events include 10 hours of venue access. With all-inclusive packages and tables and chairs provided, a Chatham Station event may help reduce the number of vendors needed and decisions to be made.
You might hear the term “kids museum” and think that’s not really your style. However, while Marbles Kids Museum is an ideal spot for a fun and whimsical wedding, the impressive architecture and customization available makes this a great spot for elegant and sophisticated events as well.
Located in downtown Raleigh, Marbles Kids Museum boasts a capacity of 2000 guests, so this is a great selection for a large wedding, with options for smaller events too.
There are three spaces available for events: Curiosity Square, Zanzibar Room, and Venture Hall. Venture Hall and Zanzibar Room are both available for daytime or night time events.
Venture Hall is in the IMAX building and includes an outdoor courtyard. The Zanzibar Room is best suited for smaller events or can be used as the ceremony space for receptions held in Curiosity Square. Curiosity Square is located on the museum’s first floor and is available for events after the museum closes at 5pm.
Couples who have used this space at Marbles Kids Museum rave about it, and enjoyed features such as customizable lighting and decor, plenty of great catering options, and the convenience of having the ceremony and the reception in separate spaces but in one venue.
