Too Stressed to Sleep Before Your Wedding? Try This
Planning a wedding can be stressful — there’s no doubt about that. In fact, some people say that the time around their marriage ceremony ends up being one of the most stressful times in their lives. It’s easy to get stressed out about the planning and all the details without even knowing it.
While some stress can be useful to you, too much is harmful to your body and your mind. If you can deal with your stress, you will feel happier and be more excited about your wedding.
Are You Stressed?
The first step in dealing with stress is to recognize and acknowledge it. When you know what is going on, you can begin to deal with it.
Stress has many symptoms, from the physical to the mental and emotional. These include:
Muscle aches and pains
Changes in appetite
If you notice changes in any of these areas, you might be under more stress than you think you are. In fact, if you notice any changes in your body or your thought processes that don’t tie back to anything else, consider stress as a possible cause.
Stress and Your Sleep
Stress can be especially disruptive to your sleep. Researchers recently studied the connection between the two in medical students in Saudi Arabia. They found that 86% of the students who were highly stressed were not sleeping well.
Sleep quality includes both the duration of sleep and how rested students felt upon waking. Stressed out students slept less, usually because they were trying to use that time in other ways, and they also felt less rested when they woke up. Stress, then, seems closely tied to how well we sleep.
How to Handle Your Stress
If you are stressed out about your wedding and not sleeping well, there are a few things you can do to improve your rest. Figure out what works for you so you can get the sleep you need.
Get a comfortable bed. If your mattress isn’t cozy, you won’t be motivated to go to bed at a decent time, and you won’t sleep as well once you’re there. Since you’re getting married soon, take this opportunity to find a mattress that’s good for sleep and sex.
Go to bed at the same time every night. This consistency will train your body, so it will know when it’s time to go to bed. Even if you have a lot to do, choose sleep instead, at least for seven hours per night.
Make your bedroom dark and quiet. Both noise and light can keep you awake, and eliminating them tells your body that it’s time to rest.
Getting ready for your wedding should be fun and exciting, but it can be stressful at the same time. Use these tips to get the sleep you need so you can enjoy your big day.
