Real NC Wedding : Annie & Nathan at A Uniquely Personal Chapel Hill Wedding
From the vintage bridal jewelry to the perfectly mismatch bridal party attire, we love everything about this unique and elegant City Kitchen wedding. In addition to an amazing group of local wedding vendors, Annie and Nathan called on their immensely talented family and friends to help with many of the gorgeous wedding details. The couple made sure to infuse their wedding with just the right amount of personality, with the bride and her maids carrying dried wild flowers and lavender, the groom and groomsmen in funky dress socks, and highlighted their love of music by having their guests sign vinyl records. Read on to learn more about this adorable couple, Nathan’s amazing scavenger hunt proposal, and their gorgeous winter wedding at City Kitchen.
We met in 2008 when Nathan was a 4th year dental student at UNC School of Dentistry, and Annie was a first year dental hygiene student. Neither one of us ever thought we would date a fellow dentite! A year later, while Nathan was in residency there, and Annie was a 2nd year dental hygiene student, he left her a post it note in her mailbox leaving his phone number.. and the rest is history! We have been together now for over 5 years. Annie living in Chapel Hill and Durham, and Nathan living in Greenville and then Winston Salem.
It was our 5 year anniversary, February 22, 2014. It included a scavenger hunt through throughout Chapel Hill. He gave me different cards at each location with a description of why and where we were going next, and a word on the bottom of each card. At the end the words scrambled to say “Annie, Will You Marry Me?” He threw in a couple words to throw me off, too! We went to where we ate our first lunch at Oishii, Our first “real” date at Spotted Dog, and we visited UNC Dental School where we met in 2008 and to Caffe Driade where we would run when training for different races.
I’m not the traditional bride. My favorite colors are black and grey. So I wanted these incorporated mostly in the wedding. We had some gold and silver as well. I wanted to be “low footprint” so most everything was done by my bridesmaids or family, I’m luck to have many creative people in my family to design the website, the initiations, the favors, etc. I also did not use many flowers at all. Only had some dried lavender for the bridesmaids to hold, and some dried wild flowers for myself to hold. We wanted every piece of art to be hand picked by US BOTH, not just me, so my fiance had a large part in the wedding planning too!
Our wedding colors were black and grey with some gold. My husband is a musician and plays in a few bands. We had our friends play live music and dedicate songs for us at the end of the reception. It was awesome!
I used this website to help with finding different vendors at the beginning of the wedding process. Now we live in Durham. My husband is a dentist, and I am a dental hygienist, and we both play music on the side!
