Real NC Wedding : Caitlin & Chase at An Elegant and Fun Washington Duke Inn Wedding
While not all of us at Weddings Mag are fans of either shade of blue when it comes to basketball, we still think it is appropriate to share this stunning Duke Chapel wedding to celebrate the Blue Devil win over Carolina last night! Gina Meyers of La Cosa Bella Events designed this amazingly personal NC real wedding for Caitlin and Chase, who are both Duke grads. Our favorite thing about this wedding is that it manages to be equally elegant and fun, with guests enjoying games of beer pong, a visit from the Blue Devil himself, and a grooms cake shaped like – you guessed it – Coach K himself.
Duke University holds a special place in Caitlin and Chase’s hearts, as this was where they first met and their relationship started to grow. It was only natural, then, that they would come back to this lovely place to say their vows. With its dramatic arched ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows and stunning Gothic details, Duke Chapel is a one of a kind ceremony venue. The bride and groom knew this to be true, so they camped outside for the opportunity to book their wedding date there!
After a lovely ceremony at the Chapel, the festivities moved on to the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in the heart of Duke’s campus. Wedding Coordinator Gina Myers of La Cosa Bella Events worked with the couple to design a classic reception that was also fun, playful and personal. Greg Warren Flowers created stunning arrangements in shades of blush and ivory, while cream-colored rosette linens covered the tables alongside gold Chiavari chairs. The place settings included beautiful gold-rimmed chargers, and fashionable menu cards and table numbers with a touch of navy to complement the bridesmaid’s dresses
While the décor was classically elegant, the couple wanted to infuse an element of fun into the event, and play with the fact that they were re-visiting their alma mater. While a lively band provided rousing entertainment for the evening, guests enjoyed a dressed-up version of a campus favorite: Beer Pong! Bartenders were on hand to fill up adorable monogrammed cups while the guests played. Everyone enjoyed classic stadium treats, like cotton candy and popcorn, and the Duke Blue Devil mascot even made an appearance on the dance floor. A chic four-tiered wedding cake was simply and stylishly decorated with white pastiage flowers and strands of draping edible pearls.
Loved ones were sent home with wonderful memories, boxes of cake, as well as creative wedding favors that represented places that were special to the happy couple. The gift bags included black and white cookies from the bride’s birth state of New York, miniature bottles of Tito’s vodka from the groom’s home state of Texas, saltwater taffy from the Caitlin’s home state of New Jersey, and coconut macaroons from their favorite North Carolina restaurant.
With the help of La Cosa Bella Events, this couple proved that even the most elegant and classic wedding could be playful and personal with the help of special details, a sentimental venue and a sense of fun-loving lightheartedness.
