Congratulations! You’re Enagaged! Now you need to make the Big announcement: Some couples in Raleigh NC just don’t feel right if anyone knows their big news before their parents and other close family members do. If you just can’t tell everyone at the same time or in person, put in a special phone call (or better yet SKYPE!).
Dream A Little: Be sure to take time to find out what your fiance wants this experience to be like! Think about the style you’d like, whether it’s a beach bash at Jennette’s Pier at Nags Head or The NC Aquarium at Roanoke Island , a sit-down dinner in a Downtown Raleigh ballroom or a ceremony at a Historic Home Site in NC. Maybe your dream location is a Country Club Setting?
This is not the “our budget is $x” talk – it’s about dreaming. Putting numbers to those dreams comes later!
Winter, Spring Summer or Fall: While you don’t have to set a firm date now, it’s smart to have an idea of what month or season you want to marry in. Then you’ll know how long you have to get things organized. Go ahead and come up with a back of the envelope idea of how many people you want to attend the event. You can, and likely will, cut the list later, but this first number will be your base.
Now talk dollars and cents: It’s rare these days that the bride’s parents pick up the whole bill, so decide on your bottom line, first. Find out from both sets of parents if or how much they are able and willing to contribute. Some family traditions might need to be considered at this time. Do Brides in your family always wear mom’s dress?

Getting your ideas organized: Now that you can share notes and ideas in the “Clouds” it’s easier than ever for Brides to keep ideas organized! You can start a couple of “boards” on Pinterest – create a wedding list on Google and share it with the whole family!
If you are a paper and pencil person – then go ahead and buy a notebook, separate it into sections for each budget category. This way you can write down the amount you want to spend on the item and then note your expenditures. As you near your limits, you can start to figure out ways to cut costs.
Ceremony Decisions: Finding an officiant and a ceremony site can be simple—if, say, you wish to marry in your hometown house of worship. Even if you’re no longer living in the area, you may have family who still are there and can help out. Sometimes a destination at the beach, or an outside park makes the most sense.
The reception venue: Think again about those wedding dreams, and see how they mesh with reality. Perhaps you envision a Farm, or a Wedding at an Outdoor Garden. Fine, but what if you can’t find just the right place or the weather is an issue? Maybe there’s a quaint hotel with a pretty courtyard that would suit. You have lots of options!
Use local resources to narrow down options: a wedding planner or a recently married friend.
