Real NC Wedding : Kaela & Lindsey at An Urban Love Inspired Downtown Raleigh Wedding
Two beautiful brides, two gorgeous dresses, one stunning wedding: This gorgeous fete is one for the books! Chad Biggs Event Planning and Design created a dazzling soiree at Babylon, a one of a kind restaurant and wedding venue in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. While Kaela and Lindsey were already legally wed in Maryland, they saw their Raleigh wedding was a special celebration with their friends and family. However, just five short days after their October wedding, North Carolina deemed the same-sex marriage law unconstitutional, legalizing gay marriage in our state! Read on for their adorable wedding inspiration and love story, and to see the stunning pictures of their special day (including a precious shot of their event planner Chad getting involved in the cake cutting!)
“We met initially in high school, we played on the basketball and volleyball teams together for a couple years. We stayed connected through mutual friends over the years and after about a decade we decide to give dating a real shot. The rest is history.”
“Lindsey proposed to Kaela before she moved from Philadelphia to Raleigh. Kaela had just finished her 3rd year of medical school and 4th year would be spent traveling mostly so we decided to move in together in Raleigh where Lindsey was working. Little did Kaela know but Lindsey had planned a huge proposal, family and friends included. Everyone drove up and surprised Kaela after Lindsey’s intimate proposal in a park in Philly where they take Bailey to walk. The weekend was epic, we spent the whole time with our family and friends celebrating.”
“We explored a lot of options in Raleigh because we knew we wanted it in our home town. Finding the venue was the hardest part for us. We initially wanted Babylon because we liked the exposed brick, and we wanted a restaurant feel. After looking at multiple venues we came full circle right back to Babylon because it gave us the atmosphere we wanted and right in downtown Raleigh.”
“We used the Philadelphia love statue as a common theme with our invites, programs and cake topper. Our colors were reflective our our dresses, ivories, champagnes, gold and black.”
“Our wedding was a bit different in the sense that we were already legally married prior to the wedding event at Babylon. North Carolina has legalized gay marriage now, and go figure about 5 days after our Raleigh wedding. However, we moved to Maryland for Kaela’s medical residency and since the state allowed us to marry legally, we did so back in July 2014. I think in terms of the Raleigh wedding, this allowed us to really just have fun and celebrate without any pressure. It really was a big party and we had a blast!”
