When Katelyn and Kyle met in the 9th grade, they quickly became best friends. The two were unaware that this friendship would grow into a deep love and support, that would ultimately lead them to the altar on May 24th, 2014 at the Airlie Gardens. Although they were best friends throughout high school, the pair did not begin to date until their second year of college. Their closeness started when Kyle helped Katelyn through the passing of her brother, and continued from there.
Their friendship began at school, as did their engagement: Kyle proposed to Katelyn while she was student teaching. Her colleagues sent her out of the classroom for a faux errand, and when she returned Kyle was there with flowers and “Will you Marry Me” written on the chalkboard. After she put on her ring, all of the students lifted signs that said “She Said Yes!” It was a complete surprise and such a happy moment for everyone.
For their springtime ceremony, the couple selected the Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, NC and wedding planners C and D Events. This secluded location gave guests the chance to walk through the beautiful gardens, flanked by the natural beauty of the breathtaking blooms. The guests also enjoyed their cocktail hour in the gardens before they continued on to the reception at Bellamy Mansion, and the weather could not have been more perfect.
Modern hues met sweet southern style in this bright and cheery wedding by C and D Events. The bride’s dress was a Marisa design featuring Lyon lace, silk organza and charmeuse, as well as a delicate beaded belt.
The bride worked with C and D Events to choose a color palette of bright hot pinks and yellows to contrast with the neutral bridesmaids dresses in mismatched styles. Full, lush peonies paired with dramatic dahlias and vibrant yellow crespidia in the bouquets and arrangements. The flower girl even wore a darling floral crown as she preceded the bride down the aisle.
The outdoor reception at Bellamy Mansion showcased darling vignettes and lounge areas for the guests to enjoy featuring vintage furniture. Elegant antique settees, vanities and dressers were topped with bright blooms inside colored glassware, creating stunning places for the eye to wander at every turn. Guests were also treated to fun and games on custom corn hole boards, made especially for the occasion.
A true Southern Belle, Katelyn has lived in Texas, Kentucky and North Carolina, so the menu reflected three different entrees highlighting the classic cuisines of those states. Playing on their new last name, “Sailor,” and the coastal location of their wedding, their favors were darling burlap bags with anchors on them, filled with a favorite of the couple – saltwater taffy. As the night continued, sunshine was replaced by the intimate glow of market lights and chandeliers.
This gorgeous reception lacked nothing in detail, as C and D Events worked tirelessly to satisfy every dream of the bride and groom as they said “I Do.” Their eye for design is apparent in the gorgeous way that they created unique and intimate vignettes for the guests to relax and interact with one another.
