Real NC Wedding: Lauren & Cartney by Vision Events Wedding at Event Planning
What was meant to be a “summer of fun” ended up as the start of a beautiful love story. Lauren and Cartney were living separate lives in Aspen until they were introduced by mutual friends. She said she surprised herself by asking him and his friends to join her group for a friend’s birthday celebration. They saw each other again, and soon, they were inseparable. They had fallen in love.
“Our relationship has persevered through my initial uncertainty (thanks to Cartney’s patience, certainly, and the motto ‘never turn your back on love’), through career changes, through two years of Aspen-NYC long distance, and through a cross-country move,” Lauren said. “And there are many more changes to come. If you’re not changing, you’re not growing, right?”
The couple lives in New York, where Lauren is a ballet dancer and Cartney works in sales, but they were married in Pinehurst, NC, which is Lauren’s hometown. The storybook couple were married in The Fair Barn, where they introduced their New York family and friends to the tall pines, amazing golf courses and beautiful horses.
The groomsmen started the wedding day with a round of golf at Pinehurst, and then retreated to the Magnolia Inn in the Village of Pinehurst to get ready for the ceremony as the bride and her bridesmaids prepared for the big day at a private home just minutes from The Fair Barn.
Rain pushed their horse track-side ceremony inside, but the day was still beautiful. Special attention was paid to all of the details. The groom’s suit boasted beautiful accenting on the inside, and the bride’s mother made the ring bearer’s pillow. The bridesmaid’s each donned matching shoes, jewelry and clutches in Tiffany blue, and the bride hand made all her hair accessories. The bride and her sister also created all of the favors – blue bottles etched with the couple’s name and wedding date, containing linen water.
The bride made a breathtaking entrance to the reception with her formal gown, but then made a big performance of a dress change with a pulled-back curtain and bubbles. The reception featured a vintage seating area decorated with wedding pictures from both families.
An array of amazing foods from oysters and shrimp to duck quesadillas to carved flank steak and salmon were served to guests followed by cake and cupcakes to get guests going. The newlyweds finished out the night with a final song with their guests then the shuttles took them to Dugan’s (the local pub) for late night festivities and memories galore!

About Lauren & Cartney:
Her Story: “We met in Aspen on Summer 7 years ago – I surprised myself one day by asking Cartney and his friends to join my friends and I for a friend’s birthday celebration….It was the “summer of fun” – nothing serious, right? But then we realized that we never wanted to be apart from one another. We had fallen in love. Our relationship has persevered through my initial uncertainty (thanks to Cartney’s patience, certainly and the motto “never turn your back on love”), through career changes, through 2 years of Aspen-NYC long distance, and through a cross country move. And there are many more changes to come – if you’re not changing your not growing, right? We change & grow together. We have fun together, we value and appreciate many of the same things, we challenge each other, we support each other in the ways we each need to be supported, we give each other space & freedom. We want to own a home, raise a family together, and maybe at some point start a business together? We talk about a cool tapas place or garage door pizza joint – it’s like a fun little daydream we play around with sometimes. If we were to take a road trip, Cartney would choose some place with Golf, beach for me, and vineyards for both of us. California? Italy? France? Spain? White Buffalo, Morissey, Beirut, the possibilities are endless.
Lauren is from Pinehurst, NC but moved to NYC to study Ballet. Lauren is a professional dancer with Ballet Hispanico in NYC. Cartney works in Sales in NY. Lauren & Cartney chose The Fair Barn for their wedding to bring a little New York state of mind to The Pines. They felt like introducing their friends & families to the tall pines, amazing golf courses, & horses. The girls got ready at a private home in Pinehurst just minutes from The Fair Barn. The Groom & Groomsmen rented out the entire Magnolia Inn in the Village of Pinehurst & started out the wedding day with a round of golf at Pinehurst. Some details: Cartney’s suit had beautiful detailing inside. Ring Bearer’s pillow was handmade by her Mom and used at her wedding. The bridesmaids had matching Tiffany Blue shows, jewelry, & clutches. Lauren hand made all her hair accessories. Lauren and her sister made all the guest favors which were Linen water in Blue Bottles with “Lauren & Cartney 9/26/15” etched by one of the groomsmen. She wanted a vintage seating area dressed with wedding pictures from their families. Along with Polaroid camera for self-made pictures. Lauren did a dress change with a formal intro back into the reception, with a true performance style. Pulled back curtain & bubbles!
Lauren & Cartney were to have their ceremony outside along the horse track; however, the start of a stent of 10 days of rain, happened on the day of their wedding so we were forced to move the wedding inside. Turned out beautiful! Lauren was referred to Vision Events by The Fair Barn. They highly recommended that Lauren reach out to us as she was trying to plan a wedding from NYC and needed local recommendations. We were just the right fit!
