The Umstead Hotel and Spa is a remarkably elegant venue with its own brand of natural beauty, nestled inside a modern and luxurious setting. Perfect for weddings, rehearsals, and showers, The Umstead Hotel and Spa provides an unforgettable experience with the idyllic touch of southern hospitality. For that reason, the family of the bride chose to host a delightful and contemporary bridal shower for the Soon-to-be-Mrs.
The planners of the event selected the outdoor terrace as the location for the fête. This space is perfect for creating an elegant and intimate event, enveloped in nature. “Lovebirds” was the romantic and playful theme of the shower, touching on the Umstead’s affinity for feathered fowl. From the name of their restaurant, Herons, to the sweet selection of hand blown glass birds in their gift shop, they make an appearance all over the hotel. Along with the lovely imagery that two lovebirds create, this was the perfect theme for an enchanting bridal shower.
A palette in shades of green and ivory was chosen to complement the lush surroundings of the terrace, with soft pops of color in vibrant oranges and sunny yellows. The natural inspiration was everywhere, with branches, moss and cut trees layered throughout the décor, on the gift table and the mimosa bar.
Simple rentals were chosen to act as a canvas to the décor. Classic Party Rentals provided a gorgeous farm table and harvest chairs, topped with chic ivory dishware, contemporary silver flatware, and iridescent green glasses to compliment the greenery of the surroundings. Each chair was decorated with darling miniature terrariums and flowers. A neutral woven runner set the stage for a gorgeous tablescape by Watered Garden Florist featuring a marriage of acrylic and natural elements, a quintessential combination for the Umstead Hotel and Spa.
Crystalline tubing was intertwined with beach-worn branches, along with interspersed arrangements of orange gloriosa lilies, green cymbidum orchids, white and green hydrangeas, gooseneck, soft green roses, white lisianthus and tropical fatsia leaves. Nestled among the flowers were ethereal little bird’s nests at every table setting, each with their own emerald green blow-glass birds. These gorgeous objet d’art are handcrafted in Finland by glass master Oliva Toikka and made wonderful keepsakes for the bride and her guests.
Anna Dulaney for PaperBuzz created custom invitations, place cards, menus and favor tags for the event. The elegant stationery was both hand-drawn and water colored, with images of lovebirds and bright green foliage.
Executive Chef Steven Greene designed an artful menu of chilled summer gazpacho with Dungeness crab, jalapeño, yuzu and basil seeds, as well as a countryside salad with farm lettuce, grilled marinated onion, pickled peaches, goat cheese and aged sherry vinaigrette.
A stunning and sculptural “dessert table” was also designed by Watered Garden Florist. It held an array of decadent treats by The Umstead’s Pastry Chef Evan Sheridan, including French macaroons, pistachio chouquettes, chocolate candies, Vanilla-berry verrines, and double chocolate cupcakes.
For the daring bride who’s wedding shower dreams don’t consist of a plethora of pink, this enchanting bridal shower is an amazing alternative, and the Umstead Hotel and Spa is a dynamic venue for any event. World-class service, contemporary cuisine, and southern hospitality meet at this luxurious location.
