Project Engagement: Jordan And Matthew By Alex Barbour
When Jordan Rogers and I met, all I could look at was her beautiful smile. Her love for life and her soon-to-be husband is extremely evident in how excited she gets just talking about her plans. Her fiancé’s name is Matthew Watkins. Jordan and Matt have been together since high school! Matthew was Jordan’s “dream guy” growing up… if she could choose anyone, it was him! It just so happened that when they went to a conference with their youth group, that they got to know each other… and the sparks flew! Who knew after having a crush for that long, that things could work out so great for two people. Jordan and Matt are definitely a match made in heaven!
Jordan has always dreamed of planning weddings, so planning hers is something that has been in the making for some time. I was so lucky to get to hear all about it, and I am so excited to share their story!
When is the big day? May 1, 2011
What is the story of the proposal?
For my Christmas present, Matthew had bought me two sessions with a local photographer that I love, Julie Faith Lindsey, to celebrate the time of life that we were in. Everyone always kept asking “When are you guys going to get married, you’ve been dating forever?!” Yet both of us knew that God had a perfect plan and we wanted to celebrate every part of life together, including dating! So after months of figuring out a perfect time we picked July 4 at North Carolina State University’s brick yard (where we both will graduate from) to have one of our sessions taken. I was really nervous because I don’t like getting my picture taken. So, Matthew told the photographer this and she really helped by joking and distracting me and focused on us just being us. She wanted to “try something new” and told us to stand back-to-back to each other. Julie told us to take three steps away from each other and on the count of three she wanted to take a sequence of shots of us running towards each other. I immediately thought “this is so stupid. How am I going to look good while doing this?” So she counted 1-2-3! And once I turned around Matthew was on his knee!!! In my head I was so focused on the running part of it that it didn’t even hit me until he started asking me to be his wife! I couldn’t stop saying yes and kissing him. Well, he then informed me that he didn’t have the ring. I was a little confused until he told me that it fell on the ground when he pulled the box out of his shorts pocket! I wasn’t even paying attention to the ring box and didn’t even notice! All I was looking at and thinking about was Matt! (We are very thankful we weren’t by a drain or in the grass!) We then went to celebrate the engagement with both of our families, who jumped up and down, cried, screamed and were just as happy as we were that we are FINALLY going to be husband and wife!
After we calmed down from chatting about the engagement and looking at her beautiful ring, we got down to business talking about her big day. She, like many of us, have been looking at wedding blogs and wedding magazines on occasion just to see if she liked anything. The one thing she said she always knew was that she wanted was her sisters by her side as her bridesmaids, and for to be described as “breathtaking” on her big day.
I asked her what she wanted her guests to see and feel on the day of her wedding…
The biggest word is love. Love for each other, love for our God, love for our family and love for the people that mean the most to us.
Where will all this take place you might be wondering? Well, Jordan and Matt are going to be celebrating their marriage at The Fair Barn in Pinehurst, N.C. This place is set in the beautiful sand hills of North Carolina and is a magical setting for a wedding. If you haven’t been, you should!
Jordan and Matt are using Navy and Khaki as their primary colors at their wedding, with bursts of green, pink, purple, yellow and orange. The colors themselves are going to make everyone realize that the colors are just bursts of their energy and love for each other!
Then, I nailed her with some deep questions:
What has been the hardest thing so far in planning?
Finding a wedding dress! I have been looking and just haven’t found the one yet!
What has been your favorite part about the journey so far?
Wearing a gorgeous shiny diamond on my finger that my fiancé picked out all by his self! Every time I look at it, I just think of him and us—what we have been through and the years that we will get to live together forever!
Do you have any advice so far for others planning their weddings, or those whose planning is just around the corner?
I think the planning is what you make it. Yes, it can be stressful and overwhelming… yet the colors, the plates, the linens aren’t the point of a wedding. Don’t get caught up in the details, yes they are important, but what is more important is the marriage that continues after that day. Never forget why you are getting married. Just focus on each other and make your wedding unique to you and your fiancé, nothing else matters!!
Thanks Jordan for letting us in on some of your wedding plans! Good luck with the rest of your planning!
