Real Wedding: Alex and Chris at Melrose Knitting Mill
Chris and Alex’s fairytale day began at the historic Melrose Knitting Mill nestled in the heart of Raleigh. Built in 1900, and only having two previous tenants since then, Melrose gives a vintage feel and allows guests a peek into the past through its large industrial windows. The couple transformed the beautiful venue to reflect chic romance and elegance for their September wedding.
For the ceremony, the historic mill was covered in billowing ivory and blush fabrics that hung from the ceiling and were bound together by lush greenery. This gave the space a refreshing, contemporary and earthy feel, while the glow from the large chandeliers overhead emphasized the romantic ambience. Alex looked stunning in an elegant, fitted gown with lace sleeves. Her bridesmaids stayed true to the theme in long white dresses of varying styles, and carried bouquets similar to Alex’s featuring white roses and other white blooms interspersed with greenery and magnolia leaves. Chris and his groomsmen sported navy jackets with a subtle dotted pattern and black lapel.
The contemporary spin on vintage elegance continued throughout the reception. Smaller tables were dressed in white linens and decorated with an array of greenery and magnolia leaves and topped with large white candles. A long table was left bare, accentuating the rustic rich wood, and was adorned with a plethora of white candles of varying heights as well as small gold votives and tealights. The menus maintained the chic style of the couple’s invitations.
The uniqueness of Chris and Alex’s reception elements made the day one to remember. A large mahogany dresser featured a Polaroid camera and photo book for the couple to remember their guests by. Instead of relying on a standard cake, Chris and Alex went the extra mile and offered guests an assortment of pies, cakes, and other desserts which were displayed on a large wooden table that hung from the ceiling by thick, rustic jute rope. After celebrating the newlyweds and their special day, guests sent the two off with sparklers to ignite their happily ever after.
