Real Wedding: Drs. Katy and Gunnar Key – Mountain Range Romance
It was a prescription for romance from the get go – Dr. Katy and Dr. Gunnar Key met at Wake Forest in chemistry class and chemistry was certainly brewing in and out of the books! As this perfect match dated throughout undergraduate and medical school, they spent countless weekends studying, hiking and enjoying each other’s company in the stunning North Carolina mountains. So what better place to exchange vows than in the place where their love flourished?
Bouquets and floral decor was gorgeous and simple, with cream and yellow blooms that seemed to burst from lush greenery accents. Katy’s gown was classically reminiscent of Old Hollywood glamour meets traditional beauty, with a long, silky, sleeveless gown under a sheer lace overlay. Her hair was swept to the side and pinned low, with a fresh bloom embellishment. Bridesmaids wore knee-length, sleeveless rich turquoise dresses, each with their hair styled similarly to the brides. Grooms and groomsmen sported classic black suits and gold ties.
A three-piece ensemble played as the ceremony began and with a background you only see in the movies, the Key’s exchanged vows before family and friends. The grandfather of the groom made the doors the wedding party entered through, which were created from the family farm. The handles were made from old keys to represent the couple’s new last name-Key.
Following the ceremony, guests were ushered to the Olde Beau Resort and Golf Club where enjoyed a brunch of custom made omelets, carved roast beef, fruits, cheese, various salads and Arnold Palmers.
The cake was a 4-tiered smooth buttercream accented with fresh flowers. The couple wanted to represent their beloved Winston Salem so the favor for the evening was “Hot Now” Krispy Cream doughnuts. After dining and dancing for hours, the newlyweds made their way through a tunnel of loved ones, waving wedding wands in celebration of the Key’s love and commitment on this special day.
