Real Wedding: Mary Helen & Jeff – A Wedding Wonderland
For Mary Helen and Jeff, the running theme from their first date to their wedding day, seems to be an ice cold setting! It was love from the get-go as this perfect couple kept each other warm with conversation and laughter during their initial rendezvous at a Carolina Hurricanes game – from that moment on, the was no doubt that these two were soon heading straight for altar.
The frigid, almost-winter air didn’t chill the warm hearts or freeze the celebration at the wedding of Jeff and Mary Helen at the All Saints Chapel in early December. The air may been a bit colder, but the flowers were in full bloom and everyone stayed warm in their wedding finest.
Mary Helen wore a gorgeous mermaid-style gown with a halter top. The back was sheer lace, and a lace overlay continued over the gown, providing beautiful detailing throughout. She kept warm with an elegant white fur wrap, and she carried a lush bouquet teeming with white flowers and accented with pops of burgundy flowers.
The bridesmaids wore long, burgundy gowns with halter tops, as well. They also wore their hair in a low chignon, like the bride, and they carried matching bouquets that were slightly smaller in size. They stayed warm with their tan fur wraps. Two flower girls wore white dresses with burgundy waist sashes and burgundy fur wraps. All the fur wraps were faux fur.
Jeff and his groomsmen wore black suits with gray ties and a small white boutonniere.
Though the rain threatened to limit some of the day’s activities, it subsided just in time for Jeff and Mary Helen to enjoy an intimate first look together at The Capital. The soon-to-be bride and groom then took some photos in front of The Capital with the wedding party before the ceremony. Then they all hopped a ride on the Raleigh Trolley to the All Saints Chapel for the intimate ceremony, officiated by DuPre Saunders.
Guests then moved to 214 Martin for a cocktail hour followed by the reception. The space was decorated with florals from Kelly Odom Flowers in the same shades from the ceremony, including white and burgundy. The dark green, glossy leaves of the magnolia tree were also used throughout, including on the wedding cake.
Several fun dances took place at the wedding. Instead of a sentimental dance, Jeff and his mother chose to rock out to “Sweet Child of Mine” for their dance. Mary Helen and her bridesmaids later danced to “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore, since they joked that they looked like the rapper in his video wearing a fur wrap. Other fun song selections included “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” for the bouquet toss and “Another One Bites the Dust” for the garter toss.
Bunn DJ spun the tunes all night, keeping the guests on their feet and happy. Meanwhile, Cinema Films and photographer Tiffany Johnson were there to capture all the special moments on film. Guests also took their own fun photos in a photo booth provided by Classic Carolina Photo Booths.
At the end of the night, guests took home a bag of coffee beans as a favor (or the kids got chocolate bars). They then held up sparklers to give Jeff and Mary Helen a bright send off to match their bright future together.
