Real Weddings: Kavel & Shannon
Love knows no borders nor boundaries. Couples come together across cultures, across religions, across languages. Any happy couple walking down the aisle knows that, but the marriage of Kavel and Shannon showed it to the world. Cultures came together in the Hindi wedding ceremony with members of both families joining in the traditional celebration. Jocelyn Warren with A Pardigm Shift Event helped coordinate the wedding, which took place at the Marriott Raleigh City Center.
The bride wore a gorgeous red sari embroidered with ornate golden designs, paired with a red headdress accented with a thick, gold border. Golden chains hung from the veil to a pendant that rested on her forehead. Elaborate gold jewelry and colorful bracelets completed the bridal ensemble. Shannon was also adorned with the intricate, bridal henna designs on her arms and hands. Margo Codd Williams of Belloviso completed the look by styling her makeup and hair, in soft, flowing waves.
The groom wore the traditional sherwani, which featured complementary colors of red and cream. The ensemble was covered in intricate embroidery in gold, emerald, and ruby. He also wore a red safa with gold chains, gold embroidery, and a long, ruby scarf that hung down the front of his wedding suit. Both donned garlands of white flowers, interspersed with red flowers, keeping with the hues and theme of the wedding.
Kavel rode atop a white horse adorned with red ceremonial coverings that featured rich, golden embroidery throughout as he lead guests during the Baraat.
Bridesmaids wore striking saris in a muted golden tan with a bright coral top and borders. They each had numerous gold and brightly colored bangles, as well as elaborate golden necklaces and earrings. Groomsmen wore suits similar to the groom but with red tops and white pants and without the elaborate embroidery and some sported khaki suits – all wore red safas.
The wedding and reception were decorated by Katen Shah Designs and included bold floral arrangements with bright blooms in shades of peach, coral, red, purple, orange, and pink. The tables were covered with white linens and paired with golden-backed chairs.
Nazara Indian Bistro catered the reception meal, which featured traditional Indian fare with a separate wedding luncheon catered by Jyoti Catering. Simply Cakes designed the fanciful wedding cake, which featured five simple tiers in various shades. The bottom was red, and the layers moved through coral, orange, and yellow as they rose, almost like a sunset. Each layer had a simple frosting covering and adorned with gold leafing.
Guests danced the night away to the tunes played by DJ Rang Ranganathan Rajaram and Dhol player Jeetu Jatinderjit Singh. Elizabeth Marx of Almond Leaf Studios was on hand to capture all of the unforgettable memories on film throughout the night.
When the celebration was over, Kavel and Shannon had a grand send off after dancing the evening away with friends and family.
A dream wedding, and wonderful reminder that love knows no bounds!
