Weddings Magazine – Get to Know Your WM Pro: Jocelyn Warren, A Paradigm Shift Event
It is not that often you meet someone with a true “gift”. Someone that loves what they do AND makes people so happy with their work, that their clients joy brings THEM the greatest satisfaction. That is exactly who Event Designer, Jocelyn Warren is and precisely what her company, A Paradigm Shift Event specializes in. A self-proclaimed “Southern City Girl”, Warren takes couples dream weddings and brings them to life.
WM: What are some of your specialties when it comes to weddings?
JW: I specialize in weddings for “regular” people. They don’t have to be the most flashy, the most expensive, the most highbrow– but they MUST be fun! I love weddings that are beautiful but also comfortable, filled with love, laughter, and family.
WM: What made you want to become a wedding planner and what do you love the most about weddings?
JW: I became a wedding planner when friends asked me to plan their wedding. They said they would pay me and I had no idea what to charge. I did some research and realized that this is a viable business that I actually enjoyed. I’ve always had a consulting company that provided education, training, fundraising, strategic planning, in the realm of nonprofit management. But I found that managing a wedding planning company gave me a lot more joy and satisfaction. Being part of people’s life celebrations it’s such a humbling and rewarding experience.
WM: What advice do you have for brides and grooms when choosing a planner?
JW: My advice for couples looking for a planner… First find a planner that has been certified, is registered with the State as a real business, has a website, and has business insurance. There are several super talented and awesome planners in this area that meet those qualifications. My second recommendation is to find someone you really “click” with. The process can be long and stressful so you really want someone who has a calming presence, who is knowledgeable, and who will be honest and talk you down from the latest trend if it doesn’t match your personality and style.
WM: How long have you been a planner?
JW: I have been a planner most of my life, I have been a project manager for more than 20 years. But I opened my wedding planning company in 2013.
WM: What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
JW: The best compliment that I have received came just this month. The Godmother of the groom, on her way out, came up to me, grabbed my hands, looked me in the eye, and said, “You have a gift. You are truly gifted at what you do.” It literally brought tears to my eyes.
WM: What is one of your most memorable wedding moments?
JW: My most memorable wedding was the 150 guest wedding that was held partially outdoors in 90 degree weather and the well that supplied water to the venue broke. Yes, 150 people with no water… my incredible staff and fabulous vendor team sprang into action and the wedding guests had no idea there was a problem!
WM: Where are you from and what do you love most about planning weddings in NC?
JW: I’m originally from Baltimore Maryland. I consider myself a southern city girl. I love the creative, talented, kind, vendors of North Carolina’s wedding community. I love that I get to work AND play with my vendor friends!
