A Worldly Affair: Internationally Inspired Bachelorette Party at Babylon
This unique bachelorette party styled shoot from our 2015 issue was so much fun to plan! Babylon in Downtown Raleigh is the perfect place for chic weddings and events, and its worldly style was the inspiration behind so much of this shoot. Brides from all backgrounds can appreciate the amazing food, beautiful decor and yummy drinks!
Playing on the South Asian heritage of the bride, Lady Bird Events collaborated with Purple Poppy Florist and Babylon to create a vibrant and unique “bachelorette party” that embraced Mediterranean, Moroccan and South Asian traditions in a modern and playful way. Babylon Restaurant in Downtown Raleigh is a deliciously chic nirvana of cultures and cuisines that meet in an upscale and intimate setting. Perfect for weddings and events, Babylon provided the ideal location for this bold theme of a modern fusion of worldly cultures.
Lady Bird Events collaborated with Doug Odom of Purple Poppy Florist to select a bright, feminine palette that spoke to the exuberant personality of the bride. Her goal was to create a fun and memorable party for her very best friends as she celebrated her last big night on the town as a single lady. The Desktop Diva Stationery set the tone for the evening with custom invitations in shades of gold, hot pink and turquoise.
With so many versatile spaces in Babylon to choose from, the team opted to begin the evening with cocktails in the beautiful waterside lounge area outside. The chaise was draped in several patterns and textures of iridescent linens from Classic Party Rentals in shades of turquoise, plum, fuchsia and gold, as well as comfortable pillows in beautiful exotic textiles. Purple Poppy florist created stunningly vibrant arrangements incorporating lanterns, gold accessories, candles and an array of bright flowers
In keeping with the exotic theme, Cakes by Chloe created a beautiful two-tiered cake in stunning turquoise with a gold henna design. Henna is present in both South Asian and Moroccan cultures, and is a often a wedding day staple. Poonam of Poonam Henna Art gave each girl a custom henna tattoo to match their personalities and tastes. Her 15 years of experience allows her to work quickly and seamlessly, and it is an art all its own.
Once inside, the girls enjoyed an intimate tablescape and dinner featuring lovely gold flatware and décor from Classic Party Rentals atop an iridescent linen, while gold Chiavari accent chairs were topped with beaded chair caps. Dinner was an incredible array of Mediterranean inspired cuisine in the form of a custom menu by the talented chefs of Babylon. The spread included petite filet mignon with truffle mushrooms and creamy risotto, flavorful salmon pave over fingerling potatoes with pesto and arugula, crispy prosciutto wrapped shrimp, flaky chicken rolls with almond and saffron honey, and a decadent charcuterie plate of prosciutto, olives, and Caprese skewers. After their fantastic meal, the ladies watched Babylon transform into a fantastically hip night spot, and danced the night away.
